What is an Adult Day Care Health Program?

Adult day care health is particularly appropriate for those families who want their loved ones to remain at home as long as possible  but are experiencing difficulties providing for their care.

Adult day care Health provides opportunities for individuals to maintain or improve their functional abilities in a supervised, structured environment, which reduces isolation, enhances selfesteem and maximizes their potential.

Benefits of an Adult Day Care Health:

  • A safe, secure environment

  • Enjoyable and education activities with socialization and peer support

  • Social setting reduces risks of depression caused by isolation and loss

  • Prevention focus, including nutrition, safety awareness and health monitoring activities, and therapy reduce risks of falls and improve ability to live at home

  • Participation in adult day care may slow cognitive loss

  • Respite from caregiving maintains the caregiver’s mental and physical health by providing relief from caregiving duties and the ability to continue employment

Services Provided Include:

  • Personal Care

  • Weekly health monitoring and counseling

  • Morning/afternoon snack

  • Hot/cold breakfast and lunch

  • Behavioral and Health Education

  • Therapeutic activities

  • Recreational and physical activities

  • Intergenerational activities

  • Range of motion/exercise

  • Fieldtrips and Outings

Application Process:

The following information and forms must accompany an application for admission into the Adult Day Care.

Completed application formsPhysical examination completed by physician Current TB clearance Assessment completed by staff Non-refundable $50 registration fee

Applicant must be:

  • Ambulatory and independent (with or without an assistive device)
  • Continent
  • Able to feed themselves
  • A non-wanderer (individual who doesn’t endanger themselves by consistenly trying to leave the premises.)

Cost Effective

  • Adult day care cost is cost effective alternative to other long-term care choices.

  • Subsidized funding is available for those who qualify.

Our program is sponsored by Nā Pu‘uwai Native Hawaiian Health Center in partnership with Arcadia Elder Service. We also receives funding from Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and Maui County Office of Aging.
